History
In 1994, a portion of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church property was allocated and leased for the construction of an independent housing unit called Orchard Haven Housing Society (OHHS). Construction was completed in 1995. This three storey, 27 unit complex is owned by members fifty years of age and older. All owners are members of the Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Kelowna and all units are mortgage free.
On July 02 – 1995, the complex was officially blessed by the late Metropolitan Wasyly.
The residence is a society governed by an elected Board of Directors from OHHS together with two Church Directors. The property is leased from Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 1935 Barlee Road, Kelowna BC, V1Y 4S3
The location of OHHS was designed to accommodate its residents with a comfortable place to live; near the Church and within walking distance to shops nearby. OHHS shares the entrance and parking lot with the Church. Each unit ranges from 993 to 1444 sq. ft. with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. In addition the complex has a hall with a seating capacity of approximately 60 persons, crafts room, games room, library, workshop and a roof top patio with barbeque, making this a very comfortable place to live.
The founding Directors of OHHS were Paul Stelmaschuk, William Tokarik, Harry Pawlyshyn, Joseph Boyko, Andrew Danyliu and Martin Dubyk. The Directors and many others dedicated many hours of their time and hard work in the planning, construction and development of this building. Their efforts are appreciated by the residents who enjoy the comfort and affordability in today’s housing market.
